Supporting Charities & Communities

At Warburtons, we have a long tradition of charitable giving and helping support the communities we serve. This is led by members of my family and focuses on charities, organisations and initiatives that aim to improve the quality of family life.

You can read about our guidelines for giving and the kind of support we provide here, apply for funding online and also contact us for details about our long-running National School Visitor Programme. Last year, we helped over 250 different organisations. Perhaps this year we can help you.

The help we give

Warburtons supports charities and the community in three ways: with financial support, product donations and the personal involvement of individual people – both Warburton family members and employees.

We aim to help improve the quality of family life at grass roots level in the community, focussing on activities that have a positive effect on the health and well-being of the whole family, such as diet, fitness, education and safety.

We also support carers and the cared for, elderly, disabled and chronically sick people and have helped hospices, road safety campaigns, youth and amateur sports activities, among many others.

Our involvement with schools

Our National School Visitor Programme has been running for more than 20 years. Each year, trained teams from our bakeries visit around 1,800 schools, sharing our knowledge of bread making and nutrition with students. These are practical, informative learning experiences and also lots of fun.

If you are a teacher and would like to organise a school visit, please contact Warburtons Customer Care team for details. They will be able to put you in touch with your local bakery.

Community champions

Every Warburtons bakery has a Community Champion who represents our community giving programme, managing funds and exploring local needs.

Along with the business’ community work, we also run a scheme where funds raised by Warburtons people for charities and projects they are interested in personally can be matched by equal amounts from the Company.

Giving as we earn

Warburtons also runs a payroll giving scheme that has been awarded the government funded Payroll Giving Quality Mark gold award. This is given to businesses where more 10% of people participate in payroll giving. Last year, over 550 of our people gave more than £38,500 to charities.

Every year, we aim to contribute the equivalent of 1% of our pre-tax profits to good causes in the community.

We are also members of Business in the Community and part of BITC’s Cares Network, where we make an annual donation and fund a number of days a year for people to get involved in local projects.

Good neighbours

When we are looking at new sites for bakeries or distribution centres, we try to manage environmental and energy issues effectively, minimise any nuisance caused by light, noise or traffic, and resolve problems when they occur. As a family business, we take our responsibility to other families in the community very seriously.
